Consultant Manager, Circular Economy

At The Furniture Practice we're looking for a Consultant Manager, Circular Economy to join our team.
Full-time · London

About the job

This is a senior leadership role at the heart of TFP's commitment to keeping furniture in use for longer. You will build and lead our circular economy offer from the ground up, owning the strategy, the commercial model and the results, from furniture audits and reuse through to buyback, furniture as a service and a used furniture marketplace.

You will work as a peer of our Consultant Managers, alongside Furniture Consultants, Sustainability, Project Management, Finance and Future Works, and be the senior voice on reuse and circularity with clients, partners and the wider industry. This is a rare opportunity to define a new area of the business and shape how TFP leads the industry on reuse.

About you...

  • Proven experience of leading a function, business area or significant programme, with accountability for commercial results

  • A strong understanding of furniture as an asset class, including condition assessment, refurbishment potential and resale value

  • Commercial confidence: able to build a business case, negotiate with suppliers and structure lease, rental and buyback arrangements

  • The credibility and presence to influence senior colleagues and clients, and to build trust quickly with Furniture Consultants so reuse becomes a natural part of how they sell and deliver projects, not an add on they have to remember

  • Comfortable operating without an established playbook, building process, standards and relationships from scratch

  • Experience of managing external partners and suppliers as an extension of your team, not just a referral relationship

  • Understanding of environmental, social and governance reporting and carbon reporting, well enough to translate circularity activity into the language clients and their sustainability teams expect

  • Excellent communication, able to turn technical or operational detail into simple, client facing messages for clients, designers and internal teams

  • Organised and detail focused enough to run asset tracking and passporting accurately across multiple sites and projects, while prioritising across several live workstreams at once

  • Balances commercial pragmatism with genuine sustainability outcomes, so decisions hold up both financially and environmentally

Key Responsibilites

  • Lead the circular economy workstream and the development of a new sub department, owning the strategy, process, tools and standards for reuse across all projects, and being forward thinking about the future of the department

  • Act as the technical lead and senior point of contact for reuse and circularity, steering Furniture Consultants, Sustainability, Project Management, Finance and partners on key decisions

  • Design and launch alternative procurement models, including buyback, furniture as a service, lease and rental, working with TFP Finance to structure commercial terms and manage risk, and advise clients and internal teams on the right ownership model for their circumstances

  • Build and manage the used furniture marketplace and our wider reuse supply chain, including sourcing relationships with manufacturers, clearance teams and used furniture suppliers, and manage partners as an extension of the team

  • Define and report on the measures of success for circularity

(This is not an exhaustive list, a job description will be forwarded to you upon application)

What we offer

  • Enhanced holiday allowance in line with length of service (1 day added per year up to 5 years)

  • Workplace pension

  • Private healthcare plan

  • Bike 2 Work scheme

  • Additional annual leave day on your Birthday

  • Flexible working options

  • Employee social events throughout the year

  • Monthly 'take-in' lunches

  • Several clubs and committees

  • One paid day per year for volunteering activities

  • Dog friendly office

  • Wellbeing initiatives
